14 March: MLaTI Masterclass 'Intellectual Property, Competition Law and Artificial Intelligence'
The first of a new annual series of Masterclasses delivered by Visiting Fellow Professor Timothy Hsieh (will usually be online, but for this first session we are hosting in person on campus.
Tim will be in conversation with David Robinson of Marks and Clerk discussing: “A comparative analysis of subject matter eligibility for AI and FinTech business method software patents and what the UK equivalent for 35 USC 101 is and strategic considerations for overcoming both statutes in both countries."
26 February: MLaTI Roundtable - Public/Private Digital Payments
MLaTI’s new International Visiting Fellows Eduard de Jong and Simon Youel (bios below) led a small roundtable discussion on Digital Payments: Digital innovations have encouraged policy makers and industry to rethink monetary systems.
In the UK, the Bank of England is looking to introduce a publicly-issued digital pound. The roundtable looked at prior failed efforts and current challenges and factors facing the digital implementation of public money.
Where are the key points of debate and what might the roadmap forward look like? What role might the University and its stakeholders play in these digital futures?
Manchester Law and Technology Conference
Since 2022 we have run our Manchester Law and Technology Conference on the first Thursday in July.
This event has been free to attend, thanks to the support of our partners and event sponsors, Bruntwood SciTech, who host it at their No 1. Circle Square building.
In 2024 we partnered with LawTech UK who featured a Showcase of regional LegalTech firms.
